What an awesome responsibility it is to raise up, teach and train our children and young people. For most of us this means working together with teachers, principals and school boards, entrusting them with our children and delegating to them authority to teach and train our children in the things they need to know to function well in our society. For homeschoolers, it means taking the responsibility to teach and train our children ourselves.

When I was asked where the burden of my heart was, immediately the words “Education Gate” came into my spirit and I began to question why. I was reminded of college where I had a burden to pray for revivial and then the burden to lead worship and prayer with other ministries on campus. This led to the invitation to lead college students after I graduated. My thoughts returned to the burden for intercession/worship that grew during my return to university in 2001-2003 and the meetings we did in various parts of the university.

There has been a journey in understanding that God calls parents to put their kids in different kinds of educational opportunities. Some are private schools, public schools, some in homeschool and in our case He has directed us to consider each child and where they should be. We are not to judge other parents for their decisions but to let God be the God who directs us.

Now God has led me and my wife back to my home town Beechy to be a youth pastor, to carry the burden for youth and children in our community. I had asked whether we could meet as the community of churches locally to pray every month that our school could be the best it can be. However the council found school policy in our division prohibitive to allow it. As the ministerial in our town, we are still planning to meet to pray with those who have a burden for the school. So we together as a community will seek God about a strategy to pray regularly for our school.

We welcome hearing from others who have a burden for our schools, our education system, our children and youth in this province.
